"DBH" stands for Diameter at Breast Height. To find it, measure the distance across your tree trunk exactly 4.5 feet up from the ground.
City vs. County Rule
If your property sits inside an official city limit (like the City of Conyers or City of Decatur), the city's local ordinances override the county's rules. Always verify your exact municipal boundary.
NEVER cut in a stream buffer
Across the state of Georgia, you are legally forbidden from cutting trees or removing vegetation within 25 to 50 feet of any stream, creek, river, or state-protected body of water. Doing so violates environmental protection acts and triggers massive, automatic fines.
NEVER cut across property lines
Never trim branches past your property line or cut down a tree whose trunk sits on a neighbor's property boundary without a legally binding, signed written agreement.
